However, by May 2014, it was two weeks behind the UK. The show was reduced to a single episode on weeknights at 6:30 pm.
Coronation Street was filmed in an interior studio located in the city center. Although the set is a replica of the natural world, it has some fantastical elements of the show. CGI trams appeared over the street several times during the show. They appeared during the opening titles and when Kelly Crabtree left the road. A storyline in December 2010 featured a tram crashing onto the cobbles and destroying the Kabin and the corner shop.
The production began in 1960. Tony Warren, the show’s creator, was heavily influenced by Salford. He wanted to capture the smog-filled atmosphere of the mid-19th century. Similarly, he tried to capture the characters like flies in amber. Initially, the show was called Florizel Street, but Agnes criticized it, saying it sounded like a disinfectant!
The cast of “Coronation Street” was largely local. Oldham has produced many actors in the show, including Alan Rothwell, Noel Dyson, Barbara Knox, Anne Kirkbride, Sally Ann Matthews, and Shobna Gulati. Many of the actors on the show were born in Oldham and trained in the town’s theatre school. Some of the actors were even booked as go-go dancers during the 1970s.
Alan Turing
The brilliant mathematician, renowned for his groundbreaking research in artificial life, lived in Manchester, England. However, it was not until the 1950s that the public learned he was a homosexual. After being accused of sexual immorality by the police, Turing was banned from working for the government. Although he was not guilty of any crime, he was forced to undergo hormone therapy to make himself asexual. However, this did not prevent him from continuing to pursue his academic interests.
A bronze statue honoring Turing has been erected in Manchester. The figure is near a gay culture center in the city. The statue is not only an appreciation for Turing as a hero of science but also as a cultural hero. It is said that the city has a long history of highlighting the significant contributions of a pioneer of modern technology.
The memorial in central Manchester honors Turing, a computer scientist who helped break the Enigma code in World War Two. The statue invites quiet reflection and commemoration. There will also be a ceremony on 31 March to remember Turing and other Mancunians convicted of the same offenses as Turing.
Alan Turing started working in the computing laboratory at Manchester University in 1948. In 1950, he bought a house in Wilmslow. During this period, he began researching various scientific themes. He was also interested in mathematical biology. His work at Manchester led him to collaborate with William Ross Ashby, who founded the Ratio Club.
Turing subsequently took an academic position in the mathematics department at the University of Manchester. He eventually became the deputy director of the Computing Machine Laboratory and developed a stored-program computer. He also wrote the first version of the Programming Manual for the Manchester Mark 1 computer. He continued receiving consultancy fees until his death.
The Hidden Gem

The Society is planning to refurbish its 425,000-square-foot building. The refurbishment will create a modern HQ environment with flexible workspaces, conference suites, and on-site amenities. The company purchased the 28-story CIS tower in Manchester in 2017 for PS66m, and Trafford Council has approved a PS60 million loan to help finance the project.
